How to Install PLAS-TEX® Coverings

PLAS-TEX®, created by Parkland Plastics™, is a durable, waterproof, hygienic, and easy-to-install wall-covering product. This breakthrough material is perfect for building and is strong enough to withstand the most rigorous treatment. PLAS-TEX® is environmentally friendly, made from 100% recycled resins, saving millions of pounds of non-biodegradable plastic from reaching landfills. Let’s explore how to install PLAS-TEX®

Perfect for heavy commercial use, PLAS-TEX® can withstand the harshest treatment without rotting, swelling, or bowing. Since it is completely waterproof, mold, mildew, or bacteria will not develop.

PLAS-TEX® will maintain its appearance and serviceability for years by simple washing with typical, non-abrasive household cleaners. Do not use steel wool or other potentially harmful products.

How to Install PLAS-TEX®

Perfect installation of PLAS-TEX® maximizes the life of your wall material. Furthermore, it ensures it looks great and prevents you from needing to replace sections later on. While installation is straightforward, doing it right the first time will eliminate future concerns.

1. Preparation

After receiving your PLAS-TEX® wall coverings, you need to lay them flat on the floor for at least 24 hours in a dry area to eliminate any bends and ripples. This step ensures that the material will be perfectly straight and aligned properly during installation. Aim to have the room where you are preparing the PLAS-TEX® at a similar temperature to how it will be used. Maintaining the temperature helps to minimize problems caused by expansion or contraction prior to installation.

Make sure to use trowel-grade, non-flammable, and latex-based adhesive for installation. Apply the material to a clean wall surface for the best results. Make sure to fill all holes and indentations before installing PLAS-TEX® wall coverings. Be aware that the adhesive for porous and non-porous surfaces may be different.

2. Installation

Always begin your installation of PLAS-TEX® wall coverings in a corner. When placing PLAS-TEX® wall coverings, make sure to leave a 1/8” space at the top, bottom, and side of each sheet. This spacing accommodates any future expansion that may occur as room temperatures fluctuate. The molding will cover these spaces completely.

Apply the adhesive with the trowel type suggested for the adhesive, and make sure the entire surface is covered. Complete coverage eliminates bubbles and unwanted irregularities. This coverage uses approximately a ½ gallon of adhesive per 4’ x 8’ sheet. PLAS-TEX® requires a continuous adhesive bond for long-lasting results.

Then, use a wallpaper roller to help press PLAS-TEX® wall coverings evenly over the surface. Finally, be sure to remove all excess sealant with a clean cloth. Finally, use a silicone caulk to the channel of the molding to finish the edges and provide a better seal making the wall coverings watertight.

3. Maintenance

Keeping your PLAS-TEX® wall coverings looking great is the easy part. Wipe clean using warm water or household soap. Do not use abrasive materials or steel wool on the PLAS-TEX® wall coverings, as these will permanently damage the covering.
